......Oliver's Introductory dive in the sea |

My first dive. I have been to Hvar, Croatia with my mother this year. As she is an enthusiastic diver, she dragged me down to the diving center, which is located right next to the hotel. I just thought, "how boring!" However, there were a lot of nice people. They were talking about dive sites etc.. I started to become a bit curious. Should I also try it? So I asked if I could come for a introductory dive. The instructor was prompt to invite me to join him on the next day. At night I had already lost heart, what was going to expect me? On the next morning, everything was set. Jürgen, the dive instructor, explained to me what was important with diving and how to put on the diving equipment. All these things seemed really strange to me, but with some help I managed to squeeze myself into this thing. A few final instructions, and off we went. What was really exciting was that we were going to dive in a small bay rather than in a pool. Well, I put the regulator into my mouth (ugh, rubber!!! ) and practised breathing, it worked out fine. Then, under water - it was something completely different (Heeelp!!! ) - one can't breath under water!!! ( Panic!!! ). But it worked out and I was a bit proud. Only at the beginning did I have some problems with moving under water, something that I had never experienced before. Then, after a few minutes I was able to focus on what was going on under water. There was a variety of fish and sea grass (I had always been afraid of it as it looks scary from above) and some objects that were washed into the water by a storm. During the whole dive, Jürgen kept an eye on me and gave me signs whether everything was o.k.. Time was passing quickly. To my mind, the € 42 were a good investment. Contrary to what I had read about introductory dives before, our dive was not a pool-dive and Jürgen did a wonderful job looking after me. It's a pity, but finally you have to surface again. Now, I only have to talk my mother into paying my dive course next year. But if necessary, I will save up for the 220 myself (and after all grandma and my aunts always give me nice presents for Christmas).
